Reclaiming the Inner Child

Emotional discomfort such as depression, anxiety, relational, abuse, impulse control, and emotion management are not solely adult issues; children and adolescents also experience emotional discomfort. How we tend to cope with emotional discomfort may vary to one degree or another between adults and children or adolescents; however you will find much more similarity. Consider the areas of self-esteem (self-worth), boundary (self-protection, vulnerability, intimacy, respect, relational), reality (self-identity, diplomacy), dependency (needing, wanting, self-care), and moderation (self-containment, spontaneous) – each of these are areas that are of personal value to children, adolescent and adults. Many times in therapy when treating adults, we are working on reclaiming the inner child.
